Built in 1905, the Grand Hotel Union is an icon of the living history of Ljubljana and Slovenia. The beautiful, eye-catching building is a prime example of the Viennese Secession style, part of the Art Nouveau movement, and has hosted many political, film, music and even royal personalities over the years, including Queen Elizabeth II. The hotel features the Grand Union Café and the Union Restaurant, a wellness center, a fitness room, a swimming pool overlooking Ljubljana Castle, a shopping arcade and the city's largest conference center.

The two hotel buildings are connected by a passage.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Citizens of the European Union do not need a visa or residence permit to enter the Republic of Slovenia. Entry is permitted on the basis of a valid identity card or a valid passport, irrespective of the reason for entering or the reason for residing in the country – employment, study, self-employment, relocation, etc.


U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to enter Slovenia, but do not require a visa for tourist or routine business travel of less than 90 days within a 180 day period.  You must obtain a stamp in your passport upon entering the Schengen Area and show it when departing. TRANSPORTATION

Ljubljana is easily accessible by all means of transport:

Train

Ljubljana has direct connections to Vienna in Austria, Trieste and Venice in Italy, Budapest in Hungary, Zagreb in Croatia, and other European cities. Ljubljana's main train station is within an easy walk to the city centre and the meeting venue.

 

Car

Slovenia has a developed network of highways:

- from Villach/Beljak (Austria) A11/E61 (100 km)

- from Klagenfurt/Celovec (Austria) E652/E61 (85 km)

- from Graz/Gradec (Austria) via Maribor E59/E57 (195 km)

- from Trieste/Trst (Italy) E 61 (100 km)

Plane

Ljubljana international Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, situated 25 km northwest of the city is connected with all major European cities and airports. For intercontinental flights we recommend a connected flight via Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, London, or Paris.

 

There are two transportation options to get from Ljubljana airport to the city centre:

- taxi or private transfer, which takes 30 min,

- public bus, which takes 50 mins.

 

A taxi ride from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to Ljubljana costs between €30.00 and €45.00 one way. The prices are lower if you order the taxi by phone. It is advisable to inquire about the fare before the ride. For reservation visit this web address.
