It is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to participate as a sponsor of the 16th International Conference on Brain Energy Metabolism (ICBEM) entitled, "Preserving Cellular Energetics and Brain Function in Aging and Neurological Disease ”.  The conference will take place June 29-July 2, 2026, at the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS) - Ramon Llull University, Barcelona, Spain. The ICBEM conference brings together leading researchers, clinicians, early career investigators, trainees, and students with a shared interest in brain energy metabolism. Lectures and discussions will cover latest developments in research related to neurometabolic and neurovascular coupling in normal and aging brain, neuronal-glial communication, alterations in lipid metabolism that impact cell function in aging or the presence of ApoE4, the roles and neuroprotective potential of alternative substrates, whether glycolysis in microglia is “fueling the fire or fighting it”, and protecting neuronal metabolism.

A central theme of the meeting is the concept that energy metabolism is not just a permissive factor, but is a driver of changes in brain.

The Program Committee has developed a compelling agenda that includes a keynote lecture by a leading expert on the effects of metabolism in pericytes on cerebral blood flow in normal and aging brain. We are excited to offer a program and meeting in which basic scientists, translational researchers and clinicians address significant problems in the field of understanding and preventing the alterations in brain metabolism and vascular coupling in aging and neurodegeneration. All contributions will also be acknowledged on slides projected at multiple sessions in the meeting. ICBEM is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN #92-3186168).  All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by U.S. law.
